I was first introduced to roleplaying with tabletop RPGs back in high school, and ever since I?ve always enjoyed playing RPGs with friends (including but not limited to D&D). Nowadays it?s been getting harder for my friends and I to set up roleplaying sessions, so I thought I?d try my hand at roleplaying online.
Since I?m a guy, I?m used to roleplaying male characters. I?m not so confident at my ability to roleplay a female character, though if the situation calls for it I could give it a try. I prefer creating my own characters rather than roleplaying a pre-existing character (such as a character from a book, film, or video game)
I?ve played a lot of Fantasy RPGs in the past, so I?m perfectly at home with fantasy settings. However I also enjoy watching anime, so I don?t mind creating anime-esque characters (but only if the setting lends itself to it). In fact, the more modern the setting, the more likely I?ll envision it as an anime.
I don?t have too much experience when it comes to Sci-Fi, as sometimes ?Bad Science? can ruin a game for me. However, if the game sounds interesting enough then I wouldn?t mind playing it.
Also I would be interested to try a ?Slice of Life? roleplay. There?s just something about the beauty of a simple mundane lifestyle that I find appealing and relaxing (think wabisabi).
I don?t mind other genres, as I like to try out new things every once in a while.
If there is one thing I don?t like about roleplaying, then it?s the vampire/werewolf craze - I?m just one of those people who never found those types of creatures interesting. I can tolerate the occasional vampire or werewolf, but I wouldn?t enjoy a game where the entire story revolves around them.
Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule. For instance: Angua from Terry Pratchett?s Discworld book series. She is a fun character that I don?t mind reading about, but that?s because it is her character that interests me ? not the fact that she?s a werewolf.
Other than roleplaying, I also like astronomy, history, and mythology. I play video games every so often, with my favorites being Minecraft, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, and Katamari Damacy. I watch a lot of anime and read a lot of manga, which always end up giving me roleplaying ideas.
Last but not least, I?m also an artist. There?s a good chance that I might end up drawing pictures of characters for these forums.
Well I didn?t expect to write that much, but I guess that paints a pretty good portrait of myself. I?ll be looking around the forums for games to join, and I?m looking forward to having a fun roleplaying experience online.
